The City of Johannesburg Metro (CoJ) is offering an exciting career opportunity for a permanent Deputy Director: Performance Audit & Performance Information within its Group Risk and Assurance Services (GRAS) Department, under the Office of the City Manager. This key position is located in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.

This role involves providing strategic and operational leadership to ensure independent, objective, and quality-assured assurance on governance, risk management, compliance, performance, economy, efficiency, and effectiveness across the City's operations. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to promoting accountability and the effective utilisation of City resources.

Minimum Requirements

  • A relevant 3-year qualification, with a preference for auditing or internal audit as a major, registered with a recognised profession at NQF level 7.
  • 8 years or more experience, which includes 2 years of supervisory exposure, covering all aspects of the audit function (activities as depicted in 11A Standards 1000 and 2000).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership in the planning, management, and delivery of performance audits and performance information audits within the GRAS Department.
  • Ensure the provision of independent, objective, and quality-assured assurance on governance, risk management, compliance, performance, economy, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Ensure effective audit planning and execution, quality assurance, stakeholder engagement, and governance support.
  • Promote accountability, continuous improvement, and the effective utilisation of City resources.
  • Control and coordinate all audit activities of the relevant audit section to meet strategic objectives of the GRAS Department and the City.
  • Ensure effective and efficient operational management of the relevant section to provide effective value-adding risk assurance services to clients.
  • Oversee independent reviews and evaluations of Council’s operations and activities.
  • Oversee Human Resources.

What the Work Involves

As Deputy Director, you will lead and manage a section responsible for performance audits and performance information audits. Your daily work will involve overseeing the planning and execution of these audits, ensuring that all activities align with the strategic objectives of the GRAS Department and the City. You will be responsible for providing independent and objective assurance on various aspects of the City's operations, from governance and risk management to compliance and resource efficiency.

You will manage the operational aspects of your section, ensuring efficient delivery of services to clients. This includes overseeing Human Resources within your section and conducting independent reviews and evaluations of Council’s operations. The role is based at 48 Ameshoff Street, SAPPI Building, Braamfontein, where you will work within the Group Risk and Assurance Services Department.
