Opportunity Overview
The City of Ekurhuleni is offering a permanent position for a Development Compliance Officer within its Real Estate and Development Planning Department. Minimum Requirements
- National Diploma in Town & Regional Planning (a degree will be an advantage)
- 1 to 3 years of experience in a similar environment
- Commitment to register with SACPLAN within three years of appointment
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct site inspections related to land development applications and law enforcement.
- Issue contravention notices through formal correspondence and direct engagement with relevant stakeholders.
- Interpret, implement, and enforce the Land Use Scheme, SPLUMA, applicable by-laws, and other relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with the assessment and monitoring of land development applications to ensure compliance with approved conditions.
- Prepare and submit recommendations to the Manager: Land Use Contraventions.
- Adhere to prescribed standards, policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, ethical conduct, and customer service.
- Attend to and resolve enquiries in accordance with approved operating procedures and service delivery standards.
- Take responsibility for own performance and ensure business objectives are achieved.
- Maintain professional, respectful, and effective interactions with stakeholders, ensuring ethical and transparent conduct.
What the Work Involves
As a Development Compliance Officer, you will be actively involved in ensuring that land development within the City of Ekurhuleni complies with all relevant laws and regulations. Your day-to-day work will include conducting site inspections to identify non-compliant developments and land uses.
You will be responsible for interpreting complex legislation, by-laws, and schemes, and for enforcing these by issuing formal contravention notices. This role requires regular direct engagement with various stakeholders, as well as preparing detailed recommendations for the Manager: Land Use Contraventions.
