Opportunity Overview

CHIETA, the Chemical Industries Education & Training Authority, is looking for a talented Software Developer to join their Head Office team in Midrand, Gauteng. This is a fixed-term contract position running until 31 March 2030, offering a significant opportunity to contribute to the organisation's innovation and technology initiatives.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in developing, maintaining, and enhancing software applications, ensuring CHIETA's technological infrastructure remains robust and effective. This vacancy provides a chance to apply advanced programming skills within a dynamic public sector environment.

Minimum Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) in Software Development, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Informatics, Financial Information Systems, or an equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in Systems Development, specifically in a Lead Developer position.
  • Solid experience with JavaScript and the Node.js ecosystem.
  • Knowledge of Web and Mobile Development, .NET Core Framework (ASP.NET, MVC, Web API and Core), HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, jQuery, Angular, React, ORM, Web Services (REST & SOAP), Workflow systems, SQL Server 2022, MySQL 8, and Database Design is required.
  • Knowledge of ODOO will be considered an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilise advanced programming skills to develop scalable and high-quality software solutions.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to integrate new technologies and features into existing systems.
  • Implement robust security measures and ensure optimal system scalability and performance.
  • Facilitate Joint Application Development (JAD) sessions and gather user requirements effectively.
  • Manage service providers and prepare comprehensive reports for stakeholders within the Innovation and Technology Business Unit.

What the Work Involves

As a Software Developer at CHIETA's Head Office in Midrand, you will be deeply involved in the entire software development lifecycle. Reporting directly to the ICT Manager, your daily tasks will include applying advanced programming skills to build and maintain high-quality software applications.

You will work closely with various teams, integrating new technologies and features, while also conducting JAD sessions to gather user requirements. A key part of your role will also involve ensuring system security, scalability, and performance, as well as managing external service providers and preparing detailed reports for internal stakeholders within the Innovation and Technology Business Unit.
