Opportunity Overview
BDO is offering exciting 12-month fixed-term internship opportunities through the Youth Employment Service (YES) Programme. These internships are designed to provide young South Africans with valuable workplace experience and professional skill development.
Participants will gain hands-on experience, learn more about BDO's culture, and understand what to expect from a career in their chosen field. The programmes aim to offer maximum exposure to real work situations and challenges within a professional environment.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must be young South Africans and meet the specific educational qualifications for the desired internship stream. All internships require a Diploma or Degree in a relevant field.
- YES Intern - Digital Transformation: Degree or Diploma in a Data related qualification. A background in Data Analysis, Development experience, or Project Management skills would be advantageous.
- YES Intern - Wealth: Completed Diploma or Degree in Investments or Financial Planning.
- YES Intern - Financial Planning: Completed Diploma or Degree in Investments or Financial Planning.
- YES Intern - Wealth, Fiduciary Services: Completed Diploma or Degree in LLB, BCom Law, Financial Planning, Accounting, Taxation, Estate and Trust Administration, Commerce, Business Management, or a related field.
- YES Intern - Applications: ICT Certification, Diploma, or Degree. A Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Development, Information Management, or a related field is required. Must have an interest in ERP systems, CRM platforms, Data Analytics, Software Development, Digital Transformation, or IT Governance.
- YES Intern - P&C: Degree or Diploma in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, or Business Administration.
- YES Intern - Enterprise Enablement Business Analyst & QA Testing: A Degree in Project Administration, Business Analysis, Process Improvement, or a related discipline; OR a Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Development, Information Management, or a related field. Must have an interest in ERP systems, CRM platforms, Data Analytics, Software Development, Digital Transformation, or IT Governance. Required skills include analytical thinking and problem-solving, process mapping and documentation, requirements gathering, stakeholder communication, attention to detail, test case creation and execution, User Acceptance Testing (UAT) support, Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and a basic understanding of project delivery methodologies.
- YES Intern - Business Development: Degree or Diploma in Marketing, Communications, Project Administration, Business Analysis, Process Improvement, or a related discipline.
- YES Intern - IT / Infrastructure: Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Development, Information Management, or a related field. Must have an interest in ERP systems, CRM platforms, Data Analytics, Software Development, Digital Transformation, or IT Governance. Required experience includes Networking (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, and basic troubleshooting), Microsoft (Windows, Active Directory, Entra ID, and Microsoft 365 fundamentals), Infrastructure (basic knowledge of servers, switches, routers, firewalls, Wi-Fi, and cabling), Troubleshooting (logical problem-solving and fault identification), ITSM (understanding of incidents, requests, changes, and documentation), Security (basic cybersecurity, MFA, and access-control awareness), and Monitoring (ability to interpret alerts/logs and maintain infrastructure records).

What an internship actually is
An internship is a fixed-term work-experience placement for someone who already holds a qualification. Unlike a learnership, it does not award a new qualification — its purpose is to convert a certificate, diploma or degree into the experience that entry-level adverts keep asking for. In the public service these run for a set term and are generally not renewable.
What the work actually looks like
- You are placed in a specific unit under a named supervisor and given the unit's ordinary work, at a junior level.
- Most of the learning is by assignment rather than instruction: you are handed a real task, given the file, and expected to ask.
