Opportunity Overview
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is inviting applications for a Deputy Director position within its Examination Registration and Certification Directorate, based in Cape Town. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the administration and integrity of educational examinations in the province.
As a Deputy Director, you will oversee critical processes related to examination certification, results management, and candidate registration, ensuring efficient and accurate service delivery to learners and educational institutions. This is a key management role with a salary of R932,292 per annum (Level 11), structured as an all-inclusive package.
Minimum Requirements
- National Senior Certificate (or equivalent)
- Appropriate Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification
- Minimum of 3 years' management experience
- Valid driver’s licence (excluding code A/A1)
- Knowledge of: Examination policies and regulations; government policies; Constitutional, legal and institutional arrangements governing the South Africa public sector; inter-governmental relations; Policy Development; Project management.
- Skills in: Strategic Management; strong conceptual and formulation abilities; leadership, with specific reference to displaying thought leadership in complex applications; team building; strong inter-personal skills.
- Applicants must be South African Citizens, Permanent Residents, or Non-South African Citizens with a valid work permit.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the certification process, including issuing certificates to full-time and part-time learners.
- Oversee the releasing of examination results, including testing result programmes, addressing outstanding/missing marks, managing remarking, and verifying results/certification.
- Handle client enquiries effectively and analyse reports for continuous improvement.
- Coordinate the examination registration process, including entry forms for candidates, registration of exam and designated centres, and registration of invigilators.
- Manage the compilation of Examination Circulars and Minutes.
- Participate in human resource management within the Directorate, including staff recruitment, motivation, training, and guidance to achieve service delivery excellence.
