Opportunity Overview
The Western Cape Department of Police Oversight and Community Safety is seeking a dedicated Senior Administrative Officer to join its team. This role is crucial for fostering strong relationships between the Department and various community safety partners across the Western Cape.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting and maintaining good relations with Community Police Forums (CPFs), Neighbourhood Watches (NHWs), district municipalities, Community Safety Forums (CSFs), and the South African Police Service (SAPS). The position also involves administering the Community Safety funding system, contributing directly to safer communities.
Minimum Requirements
- An appropriate 3-year National Diploma or B-Degree (equivalent or higher qualification).
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
- A valid Code B (or higher) driving license. People with disabilities that restrict driving abilities, but who have reasonable access to transport, may also apply.
- Knowledge of: Legislation, regulatory frameworks, policies, and best practices relevant to line functions; community development and client liaison; service delivery orientations; information systems for managing knowledge; project management; operational management practices; policy development, monitoring, and review processes; modern systems of governance and administration; public service procedures, processes, and systems; regional and local political, economic, and social affairs impacting the provincial government.
- Skills in: Computer literacy (MS Office Package - Word, Excel, PowerPoint); communication (written and verbal); strategic planning; facilitation; organisation building; problem-solving; report writing; negotiation, motivational, monitoring, and evaluation; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and maintain good relations between the Department and safety partners, including Community Police Forums (CPFs), Neighbourhood Watches (NHWs), district municipalities, Community Safety Forums (CSFs), and the South African Police Service (SAPS).
- Administer the Community Safety funding system.
- Conduct formal assessments on the functionality of safety partners, such as Community Safety Forums (CSFs).
- Facilitate effective and efficient communication with safety partners and stakeholders.
- Perform managerial and supervisory functions.
