Opportunity Overview

The Western Cape Department of Infrastructure is seeking a qualified Professional Architect to join its team. This role involves comprehensive architectural duties within the Department, focusing on state-owned or leased buildings and facilities.

The successful candidate will contribute to various projects, from design and analysis to ensuring compliance with legal and safety requirements, while also engaging in human capital development and office administration. This is an opportunity to apply architectural expertise within a government infrastructure setting.

Minimum Requirements

  • An appropriate B degree in Architecture or a relevant qualification.
  • Three years of post-qualification relevant architectural experience.
  • Compulsory registration with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) as a Professional Architect.
  • A valid driving licence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform architectural activities on state-owned or leased buildings, structures, or facilities.
  • Coordinate professional teams on all architectural aspects of projects.
  • Ensure adherence and compliance to legal, safety, and health requirements.
  • Provide architectural advice and technical support in evaluating solutions.
  • Ensure the adoption of technical and quality strategies.
  • Develop architectural-related policies, methods, and practices.
  • Provide solutions for non-compliance and design failures.
  • Review plans, drawings, specifications, and estimates prepared by building designers and/or sub-professional personnel, ensuring adherence to professional registration requirements.
  • Mentor and train candidate architects and related technical and administrative personnel to promote skills transfer and adherence to sound architectural principles.
  • Supervise architectural work and processes, and administer performance management and development.
  • Manage resources, prepare inputs for resource utilisation, and ensure adherence to procurement regulations.
  • Monitor and control expenditure, and report on expenditure and service delivery.
  • Undertake research and development activities.
