Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Education: An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
• Registration: Current registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
• Experience (varies by grade):
• Grade 1: No experience required after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
• Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years of appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist after HPCSA registration.
• Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years of appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist after HPCSA registration.
• Inherent Requirements:
• Ability to engage in the remunerated commuted overtime system.
• Willingness to participate in the after-hours call system.
• Participation in termination of pregnancy services.
• Possession of a valid Code B/EB driver’s license.
• Willingness and ability to travel as required.
• Knowledge and Skills:
• Proven ability to perform basic gynaecological and obstetric ultrasounds.
• Excellent track record of clinical, research, and educational skills.
• Clinical experience with high-risk obstetrics, gynaecological surgery, and ultrasound.
• Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relations with staff, patients, and their families.
• High standard of clinical notes and referral writing skills.
• Exemplary verbal and written communication, as well as analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with teamwork, planning, organisation, and coordination of safe labour ward management.
• Computer literacy in MS Word and Excel, and the ability to use online resources.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Ensuring the delivery of a safe, efficient, patient-centred, high-quality, and cost-effective clinical service.
• Addressing the burden of disease within the Rural West Health Ecosystem.
• Providing comprehensive specialist obstetric and gynaecological services.
• Performing independent and safe major and minor gynaecological surgical procedures.
• Managing high-risk obstetric patients.
• Managing specialist gynaecology outpatient clinics.
• Ensuring evidence-based assessment, appropriate management, and continuity of care for patients.
