Opportunity Overview

Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Education: An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Registration: Current registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Experience (varies by grade):
- Grade 1: No experience required after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years of appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist after HPCSA registration.
- Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years of appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist after HPCSA registration.
- Inherent Requirements:
- Ability to engage in the remunerated commuted overtime system.
- Willingness to participate in the after-hours call system.
- Participation in termination of pregnancy services.
- Possession of a valid Code B/EB driver’s license.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required.
- Knowledge and Skills:
- Proven ability to perform basic gynaecological and obstetric ultrasounds.
- Excellent track record of clinical, research, and educational skills.
- Clinical experience with high-risk obstetrics, gynaecological surgery, and ultrasound.
- Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relations with staff, patients, and their families.
- High standard of clinical notes and referral writing skills.
- Exemplary verbal and written communication, as well as analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with teamwork, planning, organisation, and coordination of safe labour ward management.
- Computer literacy in MS Word and Excel, and the ability to use online resources.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Ensuring the delivery of a safe, efficient, patient-centred, high-quality, and cost-effective clinical service.
- Addressing the burden of disease within the Rural West Health Ecosystem.
- Providing comprehensive specialist obstetric and gynaecological services.
- Performing independent and safe major and minor gynaecological surgical procedures.
- Managing high-risk obstetric patients.
- Managing specialist gynaecology outpatient clinics.
- Ensuring evidence-based assessment, appropriate management, and continuity of care for patients.
