Opportunity Overview

The University of the Western Cape (UWC), located in Bellville, is seeking a qualified individual for a permanent, full-time Lecturer position in the Department of Information Systems. This role is based at the Main Campus. UWC is dedicated to excellence in teaching, learning, and research, serving the diverse needs of South Africa.

The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The Information Systems Department is experiencing growth and is looking for a highly motivated individual to contribute to its academic programmes, research agenda, and commitment to teaching, research, and community engagement.

Minimum Requirements

• A relevant Master’s qualification in Information Systems or a closely related field.
• Demonstrable experience in Business Analysis.
• Demonstrable experience in Systems Analysis and Design.
• Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning in information systems, with evidence of teaching or applied knowledge in business or systems analysis, OR at least 3 years of graduate lecturing assistance experience, OR at least 2 years of work experience in the business or systems area.
• At least one accredited research publication.
• Involvement in at least one community engagement activity/initiative relevant to the Information Systems discipline.
• Registration or substantial progress towards completing a PhD (added advantage).
• Demonstrable experience in basic programming (added advantage).
• Knowledge of emerging issues in Information Systems, including Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Analytics (added advantage).

Key Responsibilities

• Facilitate learning at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels in Information Systems, with particular emphasis on artificial intelligence.
• Design and deliver modules in information systems.
• Conduct research in the information systems domain and publish in accredited, peer-reviewed journals.
• Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision in areas in Information Systems.
• Contribute to academic leadership, governance, and departmental administration.
• Undertake curriculum development and assessment in Information Systems.
• Participate in community engagement and outreach.
• Perform department-specific duties, supporting the strategic growth of the Information Systems discipline and the department.
