Opportunity Overview

Tshwane North TVET College invites suitably qualified and driven candidates to apply for a Mechanical Engineering Facilitator position specialising in Fitter and Turner. This is a fixed-term contract role, specifically for maternity relief, scheduled from September to December 2026.

The successful candidate will be based at the Temba Campus in Tshwane and will play a vital role in delivering Mechanical Engineering Studies. This opportunity focuses on both the theoretical and practical components of NC(V) and Occupational Programmes, contributing to the development of future artisans.

Minimum Requirements

• An appropriate three (03) years Degree/National Diploma or equivalent REQV13 qualification in Mechanical Engineering specializing in Fitter and Turner.
• Trade test certificate in Fitter and Turner.
• A teacher’s qualification.
• SACE Registration.
• In-depth knowledge of the subject.
• Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal), organising, planning and administration skills.
• Ability to plan and deliver lessons.
• Ability to monitor students’ performance and provide critical feedback in an objective and professional manner.
• Ability to relate to students in a professional manner and to promote a conducive teaching and learning environment.
• Added advantages: Advanced Diploma in TVET, Assessor and Moderator certificates, a valid driver’s license.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach all Mechanical Engineering Studies, including theoretical and practical components in NC(V) and Occupational Programmes.
• Compile the Programme of Assessment (POA), Portfolio of Evidence (POE), and Subjects as mandated by DHET Curriculum Instructions and Teaching and Learning Plan Framework.
• Assist with the recruitment, registration, and induction of students.
• Facilitate general academic and career development of students.
• Prepare lesson plans and lecture students in compliance with the College Annual Academic Plan, Campus timetable, and College Quality Management System.
• Assess students, maintain assessment records, and capture marks electronically according to College policies and procedures.
• Create a conducive classroom environment and ensure efficient classroom management and student discipline are always maintained.
• Report to the Senior Lecturer and liaise with Student Support Officers to provide support interventions to students.
• Distribute textbooks/learner material and student packs to students, maintaining necessary records.
• Manage and monitor students’ attendance.
• Invigilate internal and external examinations.
• Participate in student extra-curricular activities and promote holistic development.
• Embrace the use of the Learning Management System (LMS).

What the Work Involves

As a Mechanical Engineering Facilitator, you will spend your days at the Temba Campus, guiding students through both the theoretical concepts and practical applications of Fitter and Turner specialisation. Your routine will involve planning and delivering engaging lessons, assessing student progress, and providing constructive feedback to help them improve.

You will be responsible for managing your classroom environment, ensuring discipline, and fostering a positive learning atmosphere. Collaborating closely with the Senior Lecturer and Student Support Officers, you will identify and address student needs. Beyond direct teaching, you will also handle administrative tasks such as compiling academic plans, maintaining records, and managing attendance, contributing to the smooth operation of the college's educational programmes.
