Opportunity Overview

Transnet, through its TPT Saldanha IOT Operating Division, is seeking a dedicated Technical Tutor to join their team in Saldanha, Western Cape. This is a permanent employment opportunity within the People Management Training Department.

The primary purpose of this role is to develop and assess technical trainees, ensuring they become competent in their respective technical disciplines. This position is vital for aligning trainee skills with the strategic objectives of TPT.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Relevant Technical qualification (Diploma / Red Seal)
• ETD Practitioner qualification (NQF)
• Registered Assessor
• Competence certificates in specific functional areas
• Computer literacy (MS-Office)
• Minimum of 5 years’ applicable experience
• Knowledge of SAP_PM Literacy
• Knowledge of applicable tools and equipment
• Knowledge of Code of Practice 29
• Leadership skills, communication skills, ability to work as a team member
• Problem solving and root cause analysis skills
• Interpersonal skills
• Basic knowledge and application of OHS Act
• Ability to develop Standard Operating Procedures (SPOs) for all maintenance tasks
• Extensive knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment
• Basic knowledge of VSD, PLC, Gearboxes, bearings, and controls
• Experience in conducting maintenance on TPT equipment

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Presenting technical training modules and programmes to trainees, aligned with unit standards.
• Evaluating learner performance and conducting assessments to ensure effective learning, taking corrective action as needed.
• Conducting Final Integrated assessments on technical trainees and submitting results for salary progression.
• Developing and conducting assessment activities in line with assessment guides and unit standards.
• Providing practical environment support to learners to ensure safe and efficient application of acquired skills.
• Taking responsibility for the care of allocated resources required for course presentation, including facilities, equipment, and materials.
• Providing technical expertise for the development of training materials and manuals in conjunction with relevant stakeholders.
• Continuously improving learner guides and assessment tools with the Training Manager.
• Spending scheduled time in the workplace to stay updated on technological and operational changes.
• Compiling monthly and weekly training reports.
• Administering and evaluating OBML logbooks with portfolios of evidence (POEs).
• Providing on-the-job coaching aligned to terminal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Coordinating mentoring and coaching activities for all technical trainees (Artisans and technical feeder channel candidates).
• Updating training records and plans for technical trainees in line with TPT quality requirements.
• Complying with TPT procedural requirements.
