State Information Technology Agency (SITA) Senior: Database Administrator (Natural ADABAS) Vacancy 2026

Opportunity Overview

The State Information Technology Agency (SITA) invites applications for a permanent Senior: Database Administrator (Natural ADABAS) position based at SITA Numerus in Gauteng. This role is crucial for ensuring the continuous availability and performance of critical database systems.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the proactive monitoring, maintenance, and support of Database Management Systems within SITA's Mainframe or Midrange environments. This position falls under the ITI Infrastructure Services division, specifically ITI: Hosting Mainframe SAPS. The salary for this position ranges from R 620 597 to R 930 895 per annum.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: A 3-Year National Higher Diploma or Degree in an ICT-related field (Computer Science, Information Systems, Technology, and Engineering).
  • Experience:
  • 6-7 years of practical work experience in Natural ADABAS database administration across different platforms.
  • Experience should include management or supervisory responsibility within a large corporate or public sector organisation.
  • Proven experience in the creation, scheduling, and support of database backup and maintenance processes.
  • Ability to implement changes to database subsystem variables.
  • Experience with performance verification after infrastructure upgrades and system IPLs.
  • Understanding of IT Infrastructure to develop data and information needs, identify solutions, and improve service quality through logical and physical database design.
  • Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of Natural ADABAS, IT hardware and software, Linux and Windows Server environments.
  • Basic knowledge of application development.
  • Advanced Agile/Scrum knowledge and understanding of the software development lifecycle.
  • Proficiency in database change management and automation.
  • Skills in Project Management, Business/Systems Liaison, Customer Relationship Management, Meta Data Management, Information Architecture/Strategy, and Business Intelligence Architecture/Tools.
  • Experience with cloud services (AWS, Microsoft Azure) is an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare infrastructure for implementation and deployment.
  • Manage and administer applications, ADABAS databases, patches, and service packs.
  • Provide user support, third-party support, reporting, and communication.
  • Report on section activities to ensure accountability.
  • Manage security and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Develop and monitor the implementation of procedures and standards for database administration and related services.
