Opportunity Overview

The South African Revenue Services (SARS) is seeking an experienced English Language Editor / Practitioner to join its Communication & Marketing team at SARS Head Office – LeHae La SARS. This role is for a self-motivated and passionate individual who can work collaboratively with multiple cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

As a Language Editor / Practitioner, you will provide expertise, advice, and support to develop operational implementation plans and enhance service delivery by aligning technical and language edition strategies. The successful candidate will contribute to SARS's core mission of revenue collection and economic protection.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must meet one of the following educational and experience criteria:

  • Option 1:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Language Practice with applicable majors (NQF 7) or an Advanced Diploma (NQF 7).
  • 5-7 years' experience as a Language Editor, in Editing & Proof-Reading services.
  • Of which 2-3 years must be at a technically skilled level.
  • Option 2 (Alternative):
  • A Senior Certificate (NQF 4).
  • 10 years’ experience as a Language Editor, in Editing & Proof-Reading services.
  • Of which 2-3 years must be at a technically skilled level.

In addition, candidates must have the following functional experience:

  • Editing and Proof-reading services.
  • Database development and maintenance.
  • Basic research skills.

Key Responsibilities

The Language Editor / Practitioner will be responsible for:

  • Identifying and resolving queries and problems, applying discretion, and escalating unresolved issues.
  • Developing and maintaining productive working relationships with colleagues and SARS role players.
  • Planning and organising own work tasks.
  • Monitoring and addressing potential violations of communication corporate identity standards.
  • Providing specialist input through investigation of opportunities for operational and process product and risk optimisation.
  • Planning for value-added process improvements, initiatives, and services aligned with operational strategy.
  • Diagnosing symptoms, causes, and effects to solve emerging problems using personal knowledge and experience.
  • Initiating and implementing process and procedural changes, providing guidelines and support for new requirements.
  • Reviewing work progress to contribute to reporting, decision-making, and identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Applying practical knowledge of methods, systems, and procedures to identify trends and potential risks.
  • Communicating situational interpretations and judgments related to work outputs and queries.
  • Applying policies, practices, standards, procedures, and legislation correctly.
  • Implementing the SARS writing style guide.
  • Ensuring completed work adheres to relevant policies, procedures, governance, and legislative requirements.
