Opportunity Overview

The South African Police Service (SAPS) Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) is offering a senior management opportunity for a Component Head: Serious Commercial Crime Investigation. This pivotal role is based at the DPCI Head Office in Pretoria.

This position involves leading and managing the investigation of complex serious commercial crimes and economic offences across all spheres of government, ensuring adherence to the DPCI’s mandate and policies. It is a critical role aimed at upholding law and order through rigorous financial crime investigation.

Minimum Requirements

• Must be fluent in at least two of the official languages, with English being one.
• Must be a South African citizen.
• Must possess a valid light motor vehicle driver’s licence.
• Must have received a rating of at least “satisfactory” at the last written performance assessment.
• Must have no tattoo mark(s) visible when wearing any uniform of the Service.
• Must be willing to undergo SAPS basic training or lateral training.
• Will be required to undergo a Lifestyle Audit and Top Secret security vetting process.
• Must have specific working knowledge of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) mandate and functions (SAPS Act, Act No. 68 of 1995).
• Must have at least a three (3) year Diploma or Degree (accredited by SAQA on NQF level 6 or higher).
• Must have a minimum period of three (3) years’ appropriate managerial experience on senior management service.
• Must have applicable training and development in the General Detective or Serious Commercial Crime and/or Serious Corruption Investigations environment, with supporting certificates included in the application.
• Must be computer literate (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Will be subjected to a preliminary security clearance vetting, which must reflect no negative issue.
• Demonstrated skills in strategic capability, analytical ability and leadership, programme and project management, financial management, change management, service delivery innovation, problem solving and analysis, people management and empowerment, client orientation, audit and assurance, audit and risk management experience, stakeholder relations and customer focus.
• Knowledge of systems, processes, procedures, policies and legislation relevant to the field, including Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS), Public Service Act, South African Police Service Act, Public Finance Management Act, Treasury Regulations, Police/Public Service Regulations, and Risk Management Framework in the Public Sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Directly accountable to the Divisional Commissioner: National Priority Offence Operations (NPOO).
• Manage the provision of effective and efficient investigation of serious commercial crime cases in line with DPCI mandate.
• Manage the provision of effective and efficient investigation of serious economic offences in line with DPCI mandate.
• Manage the provision of effective and efficient investigation of fraud and other related statutory offences within all spheres of Government in line with DPCI mandate.
• Comply with DPCI policies and standards relating to the environment, including international agreements.
• Establish and maintain working relations.

This senior role is situated at the DPCI Head Office in Pretoria, where the Component Head will lead and oversee a critical division focused on investigating serious commercial and economic crimes.
