Opportunity Overview
The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) is the national body responsible for regulating health products in South Africa. Established under the Medicines and Related Substances Act, SAHPRA plays a crucial role in safeguarding public health by overseeing medicines, scheduled substances, clinical trials, and medical devices.
SAHPRA is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Senior Manager: Market Control. This is a five-year fixed-term contract based in Pretoria. The role is central to SAHPRA's mandate of monitoring, evaluating, and investigating health products in the public interest.
Minimum Requirements
- Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Health Sciences, or a related field.
- Registration as a Pharmacist with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in the relevant field.
- At least 5 years of management experience.
Key Responsibilities
As the Senior Manager: Market Control, your duties will include:
Strategic Management:
- Translating SAHPRA’s strategic objectives into a risk-based Market Control strategy and annual operational plan.
- Identifying emerging risks, trends, and threats within the supply chain, including substandard and falsified products, illegal sales, and non-compliance patterns.
- Defining issues, generating options, and selecting solutions that align with the organisation’s strategy and vision.
- Foreseeing obstacles and opportunities for the organisation and taking appropriate action.
- Contributing in-depth knowledge to strategic planning at the organisational level.
- Establishing performance measures and reviewing progress against strategic targets for market control activities.
- Driving continuous improvement, innovation, and service delivery enhancements across the Market Control function.
- Developing contingency measures and exploring various problem-solving options.
- Identifying and evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of implemented solutions and identifying necessary changes.
- Monitoring and reviewing strategic plans consistently, taking corrective action to keep plans on track amidst new challenges.
- Anticipating future knowledge management requirements and systems.
- Developing standards and processes to meet future knowledge management requirements.
Operational Management:
- Managing market surveillance programmes, sampling plans, testing coordination, and surveillance reporting for medicines and health products.
- Overseeing product recalls, withdrawals, rapid alerts, and related communications to ensure timely mitigation of public health risks.
- Leading investigations.
