Opportunity Overview

The Public Investment Corporation (PIC) is a leading asset management firm in South Africa, managing over R3.5 trillion in assets on behalf of public sector entities. Key clients include the Government Employees Pension Fund, the Unemployment Insurance Fund, and the Compensation Fund. The PIC is recognised as one of the largest investment managers in South Africa and across the African continent.

This vacancy is for a Research Analyst within the Resources sector. The role is critical in providing in-house equity research and investment recommendations to the Head of Equities and the Portfolio Manager: Resources. This work directly contributes to the PIC meeting its investment targets, involves forecasting key commodities, and maintaining the house view for the Resources sector.

Minimum Requirements

  • B Degree in Commerce, Finance, or Science
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in financial markets
  • FAIS RE 5 certification, or commitment to obtain it within 6 months of employment
  • Understanding of the resources sector, including commodities, cost drivers, and changing macro impact
  • Experience in investment banking, private equity, or equity research
  • Ability to maintain, develop, and update fundamental equity models

Key Responsibilities

  • Highlight key macro-economic events to the team.
  • Formulate the house commodity view in collaboration with the Resources team.
  • Provide stock recommendations supported by detailed investment theses.
  • Present detailed recommendations to the sector-head and the Internal Listed Equities team.
  • Complete and customise valuation models.
  • Maintain awareness of portfolio and stock exposures.
  • Timely maintenance of valuation models to incorporate new market information.
  • Provide investment theses, valuations, industry, and company information.
  • Offer timely commentary and disseminate real-time news-flow.
