Opportunity Overview
The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is inviting applications for Medical Officer positions across Grade 1 to 3. This is an opportunity to contribute to public healthcare within Primary Healthcare Clinics in the sub-district and at District Level Hospitals.
Successful candidates will play a vital role in delivering essential clinical services and upholding high standards of patient care and clinical governance. These positions offer a salary range from R1,041,402 per annum for Grade 1, up to R1,375,245 per annum for Grade 3, with a portion of the package potentially structured to individual needs.
Minimum Requirements
- Appropriate qualification allowing registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner.
- Current registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
- Experience for Grade 1:
- South African qualified employees: No experience required after registration as a Medical Practitioner with the HPCSA.
- Foreign qualified employees: 1 year of relevant experience after registration as a Medical Practitioner with a recognised foreign Health Professional Council, for those not required to perform Community Service in South Africa.
- Experience for Grade 2:
- South African qualified employees: A minimum of 5 years’ appropriate experience as a Medical Practitioner after registration with the HPCSA.
- Foreign qualified employees: A minimum of 6 years’ relevant experience after registration as a Medical Practitioner with a recognised foreign Health Professional Council, for those not required to perform Community Service in South Africa.
- Experience for Grade 3:
- South African qualified employees: A minimum of 10 years’ appropriate experience as a Medical Practitioner after registration with the HPCSA.
- Foreign qualified employees: A minimum of 11 years’ relevant experience after registration as a Medical Practitioner with a recognised foreign Health Professional Council, for those not required to perform Community Service in South Africa.
- A valid driver’s license (B/EB/C1).
- Willingness to relieve at Primary Healthcare Clinics within the Sub-district.
- Willingness to rotate.
- Willingness to partake in the Commuted Overtime system at Clanwilliam Hospital.
- Ability to function and make decisions independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good communication, interpersonal relationships, leadership, and conflict resolution skills.
- Basic computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and protocols of the Western Cape Department of Health.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver general clinical services to a District Level Hospital.
- Provide general clinical services to a sub-district Primary Health Care Platform.
- Contribute to Clinical Governance, including quality care of patients, teaching, and training.
- Maintain Ethics & Integrity and provide assistance to Family Physicians.
