Opportunity Overview

The Passenger Rail Agency Of South Africa (PRASA) invites applications for a Forensic Investigations Specialist. This is a vital role within the Group Internal Audit Department, based at Umjantshi House, Head Office, Johannesburg.

This specialist position focuses on providing essential forensic investigation services to the organisation. It’s an opportunity to contribute significantly to fraud prevention and combating white-collar crime within a key national entity.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Law, Forensic Investigation, Accounting, Criminology, or a related field.
• Certifications: Certified Fraud Examination (CFE) or a related Certification, and membership with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).
• Experience: 8 years of Auditing or Forensic Investigation experience.
• Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of South African law related to fraud, corruption, and white-collar crime.
• Skills: Proficiency in MS Office and forensic software tools.
• Added Advantage: A Post Graduate Qualification in Criminal Justice, Law, Computer/Digital Forensics, or a related qualification. Admittance as an Attorney or Advocate in South Africa will also be a strong advantage.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of critical duties, including:

• Providing input and insights during the development and review of the Forensic Investigation Methodology, Fraud Prevention Plan, and Fraud Committee Charter.
• Planning, managing, and executing complex forensic investigations in line with best practice and relevant legislation (e.g., PFMA, Treasury Regulations, Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act).
• Collecting, analysing, and presenting evidence in a manner admissible in disciplinary, civil, or criminal proceedings.
• Preparing detailed investigation reports, including findings and recommendations, and maintaining supporting evidence.
• Working closely with internal stakeholders (Legal, Risk, Compliance, HCM) and external parties (law enforcement, regulators, prosecutors).
• Providing guidance on fraud prevention, detection, and ethics awareness across the organisation.
• Testifying in disciplinary hearings, commissions, or court proceedings as an expert witness when required.
• Maintaining strict confidentiality and integrity throughout the investigation process.
