Opportunity Overview

Moqhaka Local Municipality is inviting applications for a Chief Fire Officer within its Community Services and Public Safety Department, specifically for the Fire Brigade section. This is a vital leadership position responsible for managing and overseeing fire and rescue operations within the municipality.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring public safety through effective fire prevention, emergency response, and incident management across the municipal area.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 or National Senior Certificate.
  • A relevant National Diploma or equivalent qualification at NQF Level 6 in Fire Technology, Fire Engineering, Emergency Services, Disaster Management, Public Safety, or a related field.
  • Possession of relevant fire-service qualifications, including recognised firefighting, rescue, and incident-command training.
  • A minimum of 8 years' relevant experience in fire and rescue services, with at least 3 to 5 years at a supervisory or management level.
  • A valid Code C1 driver's license.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and electronic reporting systems.
  • Demonstrated physical and medical fitness required to perform operational fire and rescue duties.
  • No criminal record relevant to the nature of the position.
  • Willingness and ability to work standby duties, shifts, overtime, weekends, and public holidays, and to respond to emergencies at short notice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage fire and rescue operations effectively.
  • Provide leadership in incident command and at emergency scenes.
  • Oversee fire prevention initiatives, conduct fire-safety inspections, and facilitate public education on fire safety.
  • Implement disaster-risk reduction strategies and ensure emergency preparedness.
  • Ensure compliance with fire-services legislation, municipal by-laws, and occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Undertake operational planning, resource deployment, and performance monitoring for the fire brigade.
