Opportunity Overview

Joburg City Theatres (JCT) is offering an internship programme designed to provide valuable on-the-job exposure for students and graduates. This initiative helps individuals gain practical experience required for academic qualifications or to enhance their employability after acquiring a qualification.

This specific internship is for a Building and Security Intern at the Soweto Theatre in Jabulani, Johannesburg. It is open to qualifying youth from Johannesburg communities and offers an opportunity to intern for a period not exceeding 24 months, providing practical workplace experience within a theatre and facilities management environment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric, Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Must have successfully completed N6 in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering at a recognised tertiary institution and require practical workplace experience to obtain a National Diploma.
  • Alternatively, must be in possession of a National Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from a recognised institution of higher learning and require workplace experience to enhance employability.
  • Applicants must be between the ages of 18 - 35 years.
  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Must be unemployed.
  • Must not have participated in an internship programme before, unless the previous programme was not relevant to the candidate’s course of study.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support within the Building and Facilities Department.
  • Assist with maintenance operations, inspections, repairs, safety compliance, and general facilities management functions.
  • Assist with general maintenance of theatre facilities and infrastructure.
  • Conduct routine inspections of buildings, plumbing, electrical, and structural systems.
  • Identify and report maintenance defects and safety hazards.
  • Assist with minor maintenance and repair works.
  • Monitor cleanliness, hygiene, and accessibility standards.
  • Support preventative maintenance programmes.
  • Assist with contractor supervision.
