Opportunity Overview

Joburg City Theatres (JCT), a municipal entity of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality, invites unemployed youth residing within the City of Johannesburg to apply for a CATHSSETA-funded Learnership Programme.

This learnership offers a unique opportunity to achieve a Certificate in Professional Cookery at NQF Level 4. Participants will gain both theoretical knowledge and valuable practical workplace experience specifically within the hospitality industry over a 12-month period. A monthly stipend of R3,500.00 will be paid for the duration of the learnership.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen.
  • Be between 18 and 35 years of age.
  • Be an unemployed youth residing within the City of Johannesburg.
  • Have successfully completed Grade 12 (Matric) or an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.
  • Have English as a subject in Grade 12, demonstrating the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Be passionate about cooking and committed to pursuing a career in the hospitality and culinary industry.
  • Be willing and able to attend both classroom training and workplace practical training for the full 12-month duration of the programme.
  • Not be registered on another learnership, internship, or funded skills programme during this period.
  • Possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be reliable, committed, and eager to learn.
  • Have their own transport.
  • Have no criminal record.

Key Responsibilities

During the learnership, participants will be expected to:

  • Attend and actively participate in all classroom training sessions to gain theoretical knowledge.
  • Engage in practical workplace training to apply learned skills in a professional environment.
  • Learn and develop competencies required for professional cookery and the hospitality industry.
  • Adhere to all programme requirements and workplace standards.
