The organisation is seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for a 5-year fixed-term contract. This pivotal role requires a dynamic, visionary, and ethical leader who possesses strong business acumen, impeccable integrity, and a proven track record in governance and executive management.

Minimum Requirements

• A postgraduate qualification (Master’s degree or higher) in Public Administration, Business Administration (MBA), Arts and Culture Management, Heritage Management, Museum Studies, Law, Business Operations, Development Studies, Project Management, Human Resources, Information Systems, or related disciplines.
• Ideally 10-15 years' leadership experience at senior management level, of which a minimum of 6-10 years must be at executive management level.
• Proven experience in managing multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience in reporting to a governing body or council.
• Demonstrated success in organisational transformation and change management.
• A demonstrated track record of competence and success in leading complex organisations.
• Strong financial and business acumen.
• Understanding of organisational governance principles.

Key Responsibilities

• Steering the organisation towards sustainability and innovation.
• Developing and sustaining Iziko as a successful, forward-looking heritage institution.
• Providing strategic leadership and governance to achieve strategic objectives and manage heritage resources, including knowledge management.
• Promoting the organisation's vision, mission, and values to foster a high-performance culture.
• Developing and implementing strategic interventions to ensure organisational sustainability.
• Creating and implementing frameworks, structures, and processes for good governance, effective risk management, and compliance with policies and legislation.
• Developing Iziko's vision, mission, objectives, values, and culture, and translating strategic objectives into operational plans.
• Engaging in high-level decision-making on policy and strategy, with reporting to the Council.
• Promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the organisation.
• Fostering a culture of learning and professional development.
• Leading public engagements, interfacing with stakeholders, and representing Iziko in all relevant forums.
• Ensuring financial accountability and sustainability, including compliance with the PFMA and overseeing fiscal activity to achieve clean audits.
• Driving revenue generation to support financial sustainability.
• Managing risk to ensure compliance and adherence to governance structures.
• Developing corruption awareness and ethics to safeguard the organisation.

What the Work Involves

As Chief Executive Officer, you will be at the helm of Iziko Museums of South Africa, responsible for guiding its strategic direction and ensuring its long-term viability and growth. Your daily work will involve high-level decision-making, setting policies, and translating strategic objectives into actionable plans. You will report directly to the Council, providing regular updates and engaging in discussions about the institution's future.

The role requires constant interaction with various stakeholders, representing Iziko in public forums, and actively promoting its vision and values. You will oversee all financial activities, working to ensure the organisation's sustainability by driving revenue generation and maintaining strict adherence to financial regulations and governance frameworks, including the PFMA. A key aspect of the role involves fostering a dynamic and ethical working environment, promoting diversity, and championing continuous learning and professional growth across multidisciplinary teams.
