Opportunity Overview
The Gauteng Department of Health is seeking a dedicated Professional Nurse to join their Critical Care team. This permanent employment opportunity offers a chance to provide high-quality specialized nursing care within a public health setting.
This vacancy offers a competitive annual salary package with benefits, varying based on the applicant's grade (Grade 1 R495,423.00 – R581,931.00 p.a. or Grade 2 R607,350.00 – R752,913.00 p.a.). Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (R425) qualification, which includes a Diploma or Degree in Nursing, or an equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
- A minimum of 4 years of appropriate and recognizable experience in Nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
- A post-basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year, accredited with the SANC in terms of Government Notice No. R212/ R.635 in a relevant specialty, such as Critical Care.
- Current (2026) SANC license to practice as a professional nurse.
- Computer literacy.
- Applicants must be prepared to undergo medical surveillance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality specialized nursing care services.
- Ensure compliance with infection control principles and waste management guidelines.
- Lead in shifts and manage shift working effectively.
- Work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ensure compliance with the Ideal Hospital Realization Framework guidelines, policies, regulations, protocols, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Utilize communication and problem-solving skills, and ensure accurate data collection.
- Assist in planning, organizing, and monitoring the objectives of the specialized unit in consultation with subordinates.
- Provide a therapeutic environment for staff, patients, and the public.
- Provide comprehensive, quality nursing care as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Effectively utilize human resources, material resources, and the budget.
- Provide support to Nursing Services, including assisting with the relief of duties for the supervisor.
- Participate in overall specialized unit functions.
- Be flexible to rotate to all Functional Business Units (FBUs) of the institution (internally and externally).
- Participate in training and research activities.
- Maintain professional growth, ethical standards, and self-development, as well as the development of subordinates, in line with the SANC CPD framework.
- Comply with the Performance Management and Development System (Contracting, reviews, and final assessment).
