Opportunity Overview
The Gauteng Department of Health invites applications for the position of Head of Clinical Unit (Internal Medicine) at Leratong Hospital. This is a vital leadership role responsible for the clinical and administrative functions within the Internal Medicine department.
This position offers an opportunity to lead a medical team, drive quality patient care, and contribute significantly to health outcomes in Gauteng. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining high clinical and ethical standards while also being involved in the training and supervision of medical staff.
Minimum Requirements
- Appropriate qualification allowing registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist (Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine and Fellowship of the College of South Africa).
- MBCHB qualification and current registration with the HPCSA as a specialist.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist.
- Ability to work commuted overtime.
- Computer literacy is an added advantage.
- Additional experience in management or supervision will be an added advantage.
- Preference will be given to South African citizens.
- Candidates with foreign qualifications must furnish an evaluation certificate from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership and governance within the Internal Medicine department.
- Coordinate all clinical and administration services in the department.
- Work towards improved patient experience of care.
- Maintain satisfactory clinical, professional, and ethical standards related to these services.
- Contribute to the reduction of waiting times for operations.
- Ensure effective and efficient specialist services to deliver optimal and quality healthcare in line with the vision, mission, and values of the Gauteng Department of Health.
- Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and clinical protocols.
- Oversee the supervision and effective utilisation of medical staff.
- Be responsible for the training and teaching of Medical Interns, junior doctors, and medical students.
