Opportunity Overview

The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) is seeking a skilled IT Manager to join its team, specifically supporting the Financial Services Tribunal. This role is pivotal in providing technical and managerial leadership to the ICT technical team and driving the implementation of crucial IT projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining existing ICT platforms, systems, and applications. This involves analysing and delivering services that align with the Tribunal's business strategy, as well as ensuring that ICT governance, support processes, and procedures are current and effective. This position is based in Pretoria.

Minimum Requirements

  • A 3-Year National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or an equivalent qualification.
  • At least 5-7 years of relevant working experience in IT operations, including supervising technology teams and overseeing information technology projects.
  • Must possess ITIL Foundation and COBIT 5 Foundation Training and certification.
  • Persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply as the organisation is committed to increasing the representation of marginalised groups in line with its Employment Equity Plan.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and manage the organisation's infrastructure portfolio.
  • Ensure the delivery of ICT projects according to design specifications.
  • Develop internal operational ICT procedures and processes.
  • Report on ICT deliverables, status, or escalations to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and relevant stakeholders.
  • Monitor and maintain ICT platforms, systems, and applications.
  • Ensure that Personal Development Plans exist for ICT team members and align with training plans.
  • Assist the organisation in identifying ICT continuity gaps and risks.
  • Liaise with various external suppliers to ensure relevant solutions are identified, conforming to the Tribunal's business needs and service level agreements.
  • Develop and manage ICT budgets.
  • Perform any other related ICT and ICT management functions as instructed by management.

What the Work Involves

As an IT Manager at the Financial Services Tribunal, you will lead and motivate an ICT technical team, guiding them through the full lifecycle of IT projects from design to successful delivery. Your day-to-day will involve developing and maintaining robust operational procedures to ensure the smooth functioning of all ICT systems.

You will regularly report on IT performance and project status to the Chief Operating Officer and other stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment with strategic goals. A key aspect of the role is monitoring system health and proactively addressing any issues with ICT platforms and applications. You will also engage with external technology suppliers to procure and implement solutions, managing the IT budget and ensuring financial accountability. This is an office-based role in Pretoria, where you will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer.

What you'll need to apply

Follow the advert exactly. Private employers differ, and sending more than was asked for does not help.

What this kind of post involves

A permanent post is ongoing employment with no end date, carrying full benefits and, in the public service, a defined salary level with annual notch progression. These are advertised competitively and the selection process is considerably more formal than for programme placements.

How the selection usually runs

  • Applications are screened against the stated minimum requirements first, mechanically — not meeting one is fatal regardless of the rest of your application.
  • Shortlisted candidates are interviewed by a panel, and for many posts a competency assessment or practical exercise follows.
  • Verification of qualifications, criminal record and references happens before an offer, and it is a common point of delay.

What you leave with

Ongoing employment with benefits, and in government a position on a salary scale with a defined progression path.

Where this leads next

  1. Notch progression within your level

    Satisfactory annual performance assessment.

  2. The next salary level up

Competing for an advertised post at that level — levels are attached to posts, not to people.

  3. Supervisory or management post

Experience at the level below, plus the qualification the higher post specifies.

A typical route, not a guarantee — progression depends on vacancies, funding and your own performance.

Watch out for this

The screening is mechanical and happens before anyone reads your CV: the advert’s own application instructions are applied as written, and an incomplete or unsigned form is discarded whatever the rest of the application says.
