Opportunity Overview
The Export Credit Insurance Corporation Of South Africa Soc Limited (ECIC) is seeking a Deal Originator/Senior Deal Originator for a permanent, full-time position. This role operates on a hybrid model, allowing for both remote work and in-person presence in Centurion, ZA.
The primary purpose of this role is to generate new deal flow and develop a robust pipeline of prospective insurance and financial transactions for underwriting. This involves utilising strong technical skills to assess complex financial transactions at an early stage, determining their bankability and commercial viability. The successful candidate will also engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including financiers, senior government officials, corporate executives, and directors.
Minimum Requirements
- A degree with specialisation in a commercial or technical discipline such as Economics, Accountancy, Finance, Banking, Science, Law, or Engineering.
- A minimum of 5 years’ transactional experience in origination sales planning, structuring deals, project financing, corporate finance, political risk underwriting, risk management, or a proven track record in deal origination in any field.
- Sound knowledge of international business, contractual and corporate financial practices, and accounting.
- Demonstrated strong business development and client relationship skills, with an ability to focus effectively on client needs.
- Ability to identify opportunities and assess their feasibility in line with ECIC’s objectives.
- Sound business judgement, strong financial, credit, risk management, and analytical skills.
- Familiarity with negotiating and evaluating complex transactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Organise various business initiatives to expand ECIC's client base across different market segments and geographies.
- Review and analyse deal structures to determine ECIC’s appetite and assess industry and project risks in relation to sought insurance coverage.
- Analyse the structure of originated transactions, including products, services, and contract terms, before handover to the underwriting team.
- Conduct preliminary assessments of complex financial transactions and advise clients on potential commercial and non-commercial risks, coverage options, and relevant terms and conditions.
- Collaborate closely with the underwriting team and other business units to develop innovative solutions for client transactional needs.
- Coordinate and lead cross-functional project teams within ECIC from deal inception through execution to close, managing internal and external client relationships throughout the process.
- Raise the profile of ECIC by participating in television interviews, acting as a spokesperson at conferences, and attending other networking events.
- Manage client relationships and advocate for clients internally within ECIC.
- Contribute to internal and external knowledge-sharing platforms, providing specialist input and championing a client-centric culture.
- Prepare high-quality presentations and papers for ECIC’s management and Board of Directors, including regional strategies and deal pipelines.
