Opportunity Overview

The Department of Employment and Labour is seeking a dedicated Statutory Services Officer to join its team at the Provincial Office in Parktown, Gauteng. This significant role is integral to the department's mission of upholding employment law and ensuring compliance across the province.

This position offers a valuable opportunity for individuals with a strong legal foundation and relevant experience in compliance to actively contribute to the enforcement of employment legislation. The successful candidate will be pivotal in administering legal processes and supporting the strategic objectives of Statutory Services.

Minimum Requirements

  • Three (3) year relevant qualification in BPROC, LLB, or BCOM LAW.
  • One (1) year functional experience in the legal or compliance environment.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of: Public Service transformation and management issues, Public Service Act, Treasury Regulations, Departmental policies and procedures, Corporate governance, Skills Development Act, Public Service regulations, and SDLA.
  • Skills in: Facilitation, Planning and Organising, Computer Literacy, Interpersonal communication, Problem Solving, Interviewing, Presentation, Innovation, Analytical thinking, Verbal communication, and Written communication.
  • Note: Priority will be given to White males and White females.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and independently administer work referred to Statutory Services for the enforcement of non-compliance under employment law.
  • Assist the Assistant Director: Statutory Services (ASD: SS) in the enforcement processes for IES.
  • Contribute to the strategy for Statutory Services.
  • Assist in facilitating the implementation of capacity development programmes for inspectors in the province.
  • Compile statistics for the unit.

What the Work Involves

As a Statutory Services Officer, you will primarily work within an office environment at the Provincial Office in Parktown, Johannesburg. Your daily tasks will focus on the independent planning and administration of legal cases concerning non-compliance with employment law. This involves managing the processes required to ensure regulations are enforced effectively.

You will provide crucial assistance to the Assistant Director: Statutory Services, particularly in enforcement activities. Furthermore, you will contribute to the strategic development of Statutory Services and play a role in implementing capacity-building programmes for inspectors throughout the province. Maintaining and compiling unit-specific statistics will also be a regular part of your responsibilities.
