Opportunity Overview

The Department of Employment and Labour is seeking dedicated professionals to join their team as Senior Practitioners in Employee Relations. This is a crucial role based at the Provincial Office in Parktown, Johannesburg, offering a contract period of three years.

The successful candidates will play a vital role in managing employee relations within the province, including handling grievances, misconduct cases, and representing the Department in disputes referred to various bargaining councils and commissions.

Minimum Requirements

  • An undergraduate qualification (NQF Level 6) in Human Resource Management or Labour Relations Management as recognised by SAQA.
  • Two (2) years of functional experience in an Employment Relations Management environment.
  • A Driver’s license will be an added advantage.

Required Knowledge:

  • Public Service Commission’s rules for dealing with complaints and grievances.
  • Public Service Coordinating Bargaining Council’s Resolutions.
  • Interpretation of case law and trends in Labour Law.
  • Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), Public Service Regulations (PSR), and Public Service Act (PSA).
  • Labour Relations Act (LRA) and Employment Equity Act (EEA).
  • PSCBC and CCMA Procedure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct and analyse all grievances and complaints received from employees in the Province.
  • Draft charges and finalise all misconduct cases in the Province.
  • Represent the Department in all disputes referred to the general Public Service Sectoral Bargaining Council (GPSSBC) and the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA).
  • Conduct advocacy sessions on employment-related matters to the Province.
  • Provide administration support services in the section.

What the Work Involves

In this Senior Practitioner role, you will be at the forefront of managing employee relations matters for the Department in Gauteng. Your daily tasks will involve conducting thorough analyses of grievances and complaints submitted by employees across the province, ensuring fair and consistent handling.

A significant part of the role also includes managing misconduct cases, from the initial drafting of charges through to their finalisation. You will represent the Department in critical dispute resolution forums such as the GPSSBC and the CCMA, advocating on behalf of the Department. Additionally, you will be responsible for conducting advocacy sessions to educate staff on various employment-related matters and providing essential administrative support to the section within the provincial office environment in Parktown, Johannesburg.
