Opportunity Overview

The Department of Employment and Labour is offering two OHS Inspector positions within the Free State, specifically at the Bloemfontein and Zastron Labour Centres. These roles are essential for ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related labour legislation across various workplaces.

Successful candidates will play a crucial role in maintaining workplace safety standards and enforcing legal requirements. The annual salary for these positions is R413,001. Priority will be given to African Males, African with Disabilities, Coloured Males, Coloured with Disabilities, White Males and White Females.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

• A Senior Certificate.
• A 3-year recognised qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• A valid driver's license.
• No prior experience is required for this role.

• Occupational Health and Safety Act, as amended, and its Regulations (21).
• South African National Standards (Codes) – including incorporated Codes.
• Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act.

Key Responsibilities

The successful OHS Inspector will be responsible for:

• Planning and independently conducting inspections to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993), its Regulations, and incorporated Standards.
• Confirming registration with the Unemployment Insurance Act and the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act.
• Planning, investigating, and finalising incidents and complaints related to the OHS Act and relevant regulations, including appearing in Court as a State witness when necessary.
• Planning and conducting allocated proactive inspections to monitor compliance with labour legislation, compiling and consolidating reports.
• Planning and conducting advocacy campaigns on all labour legislation, analysing their impact, and compiling reports.
• Contributing to the planning, drafting, and maintenance of regional inspection plans and reports, including executing analysis and compiling consolidated statistical reports.
