Opportunity Overview
The Department of Employment and Labour is actively seeking a dedicated OHS Inspector with a specialisation in Civil Engineering to join its Labour Centre in Kokstad. This permanent vacancy offers a competitive annual salary of R413 001.

Minimum Requirements
- A Senior Certificate.
- A three-year recognised qualification at NQF Level 6 or 7 in Civil Engineering.
- A valid Driver’s Licence.
- No prior experience is required for this position.
- Knowledge of Departmental policies and procedures, the Occupational Health and Safety Act (as amended), relevant Regulations (21), South African National Standards (Codes), the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act, and the Unemployment Insurance Act.
- Demonstrated skills in Planning and Organising, Communication, Computer literacy, Facilitation, Interpersonal relations, Conflict handling, Negotiation, Problem Solving, Interviewing, Presentation, Innovation, Analytical thinking, and both Verbal and Written Communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and independently conduct inspections to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Act 85 of 1993, its Regulations, and incorporated Standards.
- Confirm registration with the Unemployment Insurance Act and the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act.
- Plan, investigate, and finalise incidents and complaints reported pertaining to the OHS Act and relevant regulations, enforcing compliance when necessary.
- Appear in court as a state witness.
- Plan and conduct allocated proactive inspections as per schedule to monitor compliance with relevant labour legislation, including compiling and consolidating reports.
- Plan and conduct advocacy campaigns on all labour legislation independently, analyse their impact, and compile consolidated reports.
- Contribute at a higher level to the planning, drafting, and maintenance of regional inspection plans and reports, including executing analysis and compiling consolidated statistical reports on regional and allocated cases.
