Opportunity Overview

The Department of Employment and Labour is seeking dedicated individuals for the Assistant Director: Labour Centre Operations (UIF) position. This is a three-year contract opportunity based at the Thohoyandou Labour Centre.

This role involves overseeing the provision of Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) services, ensuring quality and efficient processing of claims and applications for the community.

Minimum Requirements

  • An undergraduate qualification at NQF Level 6 or 7 as recognised by SAQA in one of the following fields: Operations Management, Research/Public Management or Administration, Business Administration or Management, Administrative Management, Financial Accounting, or Finance.
  • Four (4) years of experience, including two (2) years of functional experience in an Operations environment and two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • A Driver’s License will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of: Treasury Regulations, Public Service Act (PSA), Public Service Regulation (PSR), Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA), Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), and Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
  • Skills in: Driving, Computer literacy, Report writing, People management, Time Management, Communication (verbal and written), Customer Relations, Supervisory skills, Presentation, Numeracy, and Analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the provision of UI claims and processing at a Labour Centre.
  • Coordinate the quality assurance of UI applications, registrations, and declarations, and follow-up with clients.
  • Facilitate the provision of UI services to walk-in and online customers.
  • Coordinate the administration of governance, compliance, and risk matters for UI at the Labour Centre.
  • Manage resources in the Division.

What the Work Involves

As an Assistant Director at the Thohoyandou Labour Centre, you will play a central role in managing Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) services. Your daily work will include overseeing the processing of UI claims and ensuring all applications, registrations, and declarations meet quality standards. This involves actively following up with clients to resolve queries and ensure smooth service delivery.

You will be responsible for facilitating UIF services for both individuals visiting the centre and those engaging online. A key part of the role also involves coordinating compliance with governance frameworks, managing risks related to UIF operations, and effectively allocating resources within your division.
