The Department of Employment and Labour is seeking an Assistant Director: HRM & ER for a three-year contract position based in their Provincial Office in Gauteng, Johannesburg. This role is crucial for coordinating and monitoring human resources and employee relations policies within the province, ensuring efficient administration of service benefits and employment equity programmes.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: An undergraduate qualification in Human Resource Management / Public Management / Employee Relations at NQF Level 6 as recognised by SAQA.
  • Experience: Four (4) years’ experience, of which two (2) years must be functional experience in a Human Resource Management and Employee Relations environment, and two (2) years must be at a Senior Practitioner level.
  • Advantage: A Driver’s License will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge: Public Service transformation and management issues, White Paper on transformation of Public Service, ability to convert policy into action, Human resources System and Procedures, Public Service Act and Resolutions, Recruitment and Selection, Departmental Policies and Procedures, Batho Pele Principles, Minimum Information Security Standards, PERSAL and other HR information management systems.
  • Skills: Communication (Verbal and Written), Computer Literacy (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, PERSAL, etc.), Innovative / Creative, Presentation, Responsiveness, Report writing, Time management, Organising and Planning, Financial Management, Policy Analysis, Problem Solving and Decision Making.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of duties, including:

  • Coordinating and monitoring the implementation of human resources management policies in the Province.
  • Monitoring and providing advice on the implementation of Employment Relations policies and prescripts.
  • Coordinating and managing the implementation of programmes of Employment Equity.
  • Monitoring the administration of service benefits.
  • Managing resources (Human, Finance, Equipment / Assets) in the Sub-directorate.

Working from the Provincial Office in Johannesburg, the Assistant Director will be responsible for overseeing the consistent application of human resources and employee relations policies across the province.
