Opportunity Overview

The Democratic Alliance (DA) is offering a Policy Research Internship opportunity based in Cape Town. This role is designed for individuals eager to contribute to the formulation and development of party policy.

As an intern, you will play a part in shaping the DA's vision and principles, gaining hands-on experience in policy research and development within a dynamic political environment.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree is required, ideally in fields such as Social Sciences, Public Policy, Law, or Economics.
  • Experience: Research experience is advantageous.
  • Computer Literacy: Proficiency in computer use, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Effective time management and organisational skills.
  • Systematic, comprehensive approach with keen attention to detail.
  • Capability for problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking.
  • Ability to analyse, synthesise, and present complex qualitative and quantitative information clearly.
  • Aptitude for working with large amounts of information systematically under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrate initiative and perform well in high-pressure situations.
  • Outcomes-orientated approach to tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and apply sound judgement.
  • Alignment with a liberal philosophy.
  • Commitment to the principles, policies, and programme of action of the Democratic Alliance.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays when necessary.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Contributing to the research, consulting, writing, and presentation of DA policy, including related documents and position papers.
  • Helping to give practical effect to the DA’s vision of an Open Opportunity Society for All, as well as its foundational values, principles, and ideals.
  • Understanding and applying the Party’s strategy as it relates to the DA’s policy programme.
