Opportunity Overview

Correctional Services is inviting applications for the position of Professional Nurse Grade 1 with a specialisation in General Nursing. This is a 12-month contract opportunity available at the Burgersdorp Correctional Centre within the Eastern Cape region's Sada Management Area.

This role offers a chance to contribute to healthcare services within a correctional environment, ensuring patient well-being and upholding professional nursing standards. The position comes with an annual stipend of R337,359, plus 37% in lieu of benefits.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• A recognised Degree or National Diploma in Nursing, or an equivalent qualification that permits registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
• Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
• Computer literacy.
• A valid driver’s licence.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of duties, including:

• Providing comprehensive nursing care to patients through the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing interventions.
• Delivering nursing services in adherence to applicable healthcare legislation, departmental policies, and ethical guidelines.
• Maintaining accurate patient records and ensuring the confidentiality of patient information.
• Participating in the implementation of quality assurance, infection prevention, and control measures to promote safe and effective healthcare services.
• Efficiently and responsibly utilising allocated human, material, and medical resources.
• Promoting patient advocacy by responding to patients’ health needs, rights, and expectations in line with Batho Pele principles.
• Providing health education and counselling to patients, families, and communities.
• Collaborating effectively with members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure integrated and patient-centred care.
• Participating in continuous professional development activities to maintain and enhance professional knowledge and skills.
• Managing human resources, finances, and assets where applicable.
• Managing performance information.
