Opportunity Overview
The Department of Correctional Services is seeking a qualified Educationist specializing in Tourism and Mathematics Literacy for a 12-month contract position. This role is based at the Burgersdorp Correctional Centre within the Sada Management Area in the Eastern Cape region.
This opportunity involves facilitating educational programmes for offenders, contributing significantly to their academic development, skill acquisition, and rehabilitation journey. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in preparing individuals for successful reintegration into society upon their release.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A recognized four-year Degree or equivalent qualification in Education, with a specialization in both Tourism and Mathematics Literacy.
- Current registration with the South African Council of Educators.
- Computer literate.
- Possession of a valid driver’s licence.
- Demonstrated competencies and attributes including:
- Ability to plan, organise, lead, and control.
- Client orientation and effective communication skills.
- Proficiency in policy implementation and report writing.
- Skills in diversity management, training, and development.
- A focus on service delivery innovation and creativity.
- Experience in project management and conflict resolution.
- Strong facilitation and management skills, coupled with integrity and honesty.
- Knowledge and understanding of the public service management framework.
- Ability to influence and impact, along with strong presentation skills.
- Developed conceptual skills.
Key Responsibilities
The successful Educationist will be responsible for a range of duties, including but not limited to:
- Facilitating and delivering education programmes in Tourism and Mathematics Literacy to offenders.
- Implementing and applying departmental education policies, procedures, and curriculum requirements within correctional facilities.
- Presenting Tourism learning programmes in accordance with approved educational standards and curriculum frameworks.
- Promoting an understanding of the tourism industry, customer service, entrepreneurship, cultural diversity, and sustainable tourism practices among offenders.
- Assessing progress through appropriate evaluation methods, monitoring academic performance, and maintaining accurate records.
- Ensuring adherence to established education and training service standards.
- Contributing to the creation of a conducive learning environment that supports effective teaching, learning, and personal development.
- Managing human resources, finances, and assets allocated to educational programmes.
- Managing performance information related to educational outcomes.
