Opportunity Overview
The Department of Correctional Services is inviting applications for an Educationist specialising in History and Life Orientation. This is a contract position for 12 months, based at the Burgersdorp Correctional Centre within the Sada Management Area in the Eastern Cape region.
This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the academic development and rehabilitation of offenders by facilitating crucial education programmes. The successful candidate will play a vital part in preparing offenders for successful reintegration into society. The position offers a salary of R375 270 per annum, plus 37% in lieu of benefits.
Minimum Requirements
- Recognized four-year Degree or an equivalent qualification in Education, with a specialisation in History and Life Orientation.
- Registration with the South African Council of Educators.
- Computer literate.
- Possession of a valid driver’s licence.
- Demonstrated competencies in planning, organising, leadership, control, client orientation, communication, policy implementation, and report writing.
- Ability to manage diversity, facilitate training and development, drive service delivery innovation, manage projects, and resolve conflict.
- Integrity, honesty, and knowledge of public service management frameworks.
- Strong influence, impact, presentation, conceptual, and conflict management skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate and deliver History and Life Orientation education programmes tailored for offenders, supporting their academic growth and rehabilitation.
- Implement and apply departmental education policies, procedures, and curriculum requirements within correctional facilities.
- Present History lessons in accordance with approved educational standards and curriculum frameworks.
- Promote critical thinking, historical inquiry, and an understanding of historical events and their societal impact among learners.
- Assess learner progress through appropriate evaluation methods, monitor academic performance, and maintain accurate records.
Ensure adherence to established education and training service standards.
- Contribute to creating a conducive learning environment that supports effective teaching, learning, and personal development for offenders.
- Manage human resources, financial resources, and assets within the scope of the role.
- Manage performance information to ensure programme effectiveness.
