Opportunity Overview

Correctional Services is offering a 12-month contract opportunity for an Educationist specialising in English and Mathematics Literacy. This role is based at the Burgersdorp Correctional Centre within the Eastern Cape region.

The successful candidate will play a vital part in facilitating and delivering essential education programmes to offenders. This work supports their academic development, rehabilitation, and successful reintegration into society.

This position comes with a salary of R375 270 per annum, plus 37% in lieu of benefits.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this Educationist role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A recognised four (4) year Degree or equivalent qualification in Education, specialising in English and Mathematics Literacy.
  • Registration with the South African Council of Educators.
  • Computer literate.
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence.

Key Responsibilities

The Educationist will be responsible for a range of duties, including:

  • Facilitating and delivering mathematics and English education programmes to offenders.
  • Implementing and applying departmental education policies, procedures, and curriculum requirements within correctional facilities.
  • Presenting mathematics lessons in accordance with approved educational standards and curriculum frameworks.
  • Assessing progress through appropriate evaluation methods, monitoring academic performance, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Promoting numeracy, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Contributing to the creation of a conducive learning environment that supports effective teaching and learning.
  • Managing human resources, finances, and assets.
  • Managing performance information.
