Opportunity Overview
The City Of Johannesburg Metro's Legislature Branch is seeking a dedicated individual for a permanent Deputy Director: Council & Committees position. This role is crucial for supporting the City's Legislative Arm by ensuring efficient and effective operations in relation to strategic direction, policies, and both National and Provincial legislation.
Based in Braampark, Johannesburg, the successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining best international practices for legislative support, record keeping, and language services. This includes overseeing the implementation of the City's petitions policy and upholding principles of good governance. The remuneration for this position is R67,075.25 per month (basic salary, excluding benefits).
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / NQF level 4
- Degree in Public Administration, Political Science, or Business Administration (NQF Level 7)
- 7 - 8 years’ experience in the Legislative Sector, Local Government system/Public Sector, or Provincial and National Governments
- At least 2 years of management experience
- Computer Literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel)
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, direct, and manage the Council and Committees Sub-Directorate.
- Provide efficient and effective support to the Legislative Arm of the City of Johannesburg.
- Ensure the legislative arm is provided with strategic direction associated with policies, National and Provincial legislation.
- Meet best international practice/benchmarks with respect to legislative support, the provision of records, and language service.
- Oversee the implementation of the City's petitions policy and associated principles of good governance.
- Provide support to the Speaker with regard to the effective functioning of Council and its Section 79 Committees.
- Identify, establish, develop, manage, and maintain relations with relevant institutions and networks.
- Direct and manage the implementation of financial controls or procedures and provide information to support financial planning.
- Identify and define immediate, short, and long-term objectives and plans associated with comprehensive administrative and secretariat support.
- Direct and control outcomes associated with productivity and performance management of human capital within the Council and Committees Sub-Directorate.
- Manage the Council and Committees Sub-Directorate operations.
