Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Hold a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) / B. Tech in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) / or an equivalent qualification.
• Possess a Governance Certificate of Competence (GCC) (Factories).
• Be registered with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa).
• Have seven to ten (7-10) years of working experience in the management of a medium to large electrical distribution environment.
• At least five (5) years of this experience must be at a senior management level.
• A Post Graduate qualification in management will be an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will report directly to the CEO and be responsible for a range of critical functions, including:

• Overseeing the long-term strategic master planning for 132kV transmission, 33kV sub-transmission, and 11kV distribution networks.
• Translating the electrical master plan into a phased, implementable roadmap.
• Driving proactive maintenance strategies to reduce electricity losses and prevent infrastructure degradation.
• Ensuring that substations and distribution lines are maintained to high safety and performance standards.
• Managing multi-year Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) budgets, aligning project spending with the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) and SDBIP requirements.
• Overseeing projects from pre-feasibility and design through to commissioning, focusing on preventing "abandoned projects" or poor contract management.
• Managing technical talent, identifying skills gaps, and implementing training programs for the engineering team.
• Setting clear Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the unit and ensuring accountability within the engineering workforce.
• Ensuring full and compliant spending of infrastructure grants and strict monitoring of contractors.
• Maintaining robust record-keeping and internal controls to avoid financial irregularities and link project outcomes directly to service delivery.
