Capenature is inviting applications for a dedicated Conservation Manager to oversee the Groot Winterhoek Nature Reserve Complex. Minimum Requirements
- National Diploma in Nature Conservation or an equivalent qualification at NQF Level 6 in a Nature Conservation field.
- Five years’ management experience in the Conservation Sector.
- Incident Command Training (ICS 100, ICS 200).
- Thorough working knowledge of MS Office and GIS.
- A valid EB (08) driver’s license, willingness to travel regularly, and ability to drive on 4x4 terrain.
- Bilingualism in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape.
- No criminal record.
- Physical fitness to perform duties in rugged mountain terrain.

What the Work Involves
As a Conservation Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and strategic management of the Groot Winterhoek Nature Reserve Complex. This involves implementing targeted conservation and restoration initiatives based on best practices, ensuring the Protected Area is managed according to its plan, and safeguarding priority landscapes. You will be instrumental in implementing biodiversity legal mandates through compliance and enforcement actions, working towards protected area expansion priorities, and protecting priority species and ecosystems.
The role also extends to fostering strong community and stakeholder relations, developing functional partnerships to address biodiversity loss, and promoting environmental interpretation and awareness. You will facilitate the biodiversity economy by creating job opportunities through Natural Resource Management programmes, enhancing contractor development, and supporting sustainable harvesting. You will report to the Landscape Unit Manager within the Ceder-Berg Landscape Unit (West Landscape) and operate in a demanding outdoor environment, requiring physical fitness for duties in rugged mountain terrain.
