As a Building Technician, you will play a key role in ensuring that all Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met, by actively identifying risks, executing various maintenance strategies, and managing resources efficiently.

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric (Senior Certificate)
  • Valid SA Driver’s License
  • 3-5 years of relevant maintenance experience
  • Strong administrative, planning, and organizational skills
  • Experience in stock control
  • Computer literate
  • Experience in building maintenance and stocktaking
  • Intermediate skill level in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, and MS Outlook
  • SAP knowledge
  • Knowledge of OHS Act, ISO 9001 Quality Management, and Risk Management Systems

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify maintenance risks on client property and equipment for evaluation and resolution.
  • Drive the timely execution of effective maintenance strategies, including planned, preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance.
  • Ensure the optimum utilization of available resources in various maintenance works.
  • Ensure timely delivery and appropriateness of parts and spares for effective maintenance execution.
  • Manage third-party contractors.
  • Plan and execute minor projects.

Bidvest Facilities Management Handyman - General Building Maintenance Vacancy 2026

Opportunity Overview

Bidvest Facilities Management has a permanent Handyman position available in Cape Town, Western Cape. This role is essential for carrying out timely and quality planned, preventive, and emergency maintenance tasks across a range of equipment and facilities.

The Handyman will be responsible for executing various maintenance duties as per job cards, ensuring the smooth operation and upkeep of client sites. This is an entry-level opportunity for individuals with relevant experience in general building maintenance.

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric (Senior Certificate)
  • N3 Technical (Electrical/Mechanical)
  • Valid SA Driver’s License
  • 3 years relevant experience in Handyman maintenance tasks
  • Basic training on hand tools, electrical, and mechanical equipment
  • Knowledge of OHS Act & ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks in accordance with issued job cards (work orders), meeting client and company requirements.
  • Conduct investigations, evaluations, and restorations on identified equipment malfunctions.
  • Carry out minor repairs and services on all electrical equipment and appliances.
  • Perform office movement related tasks, including installation of furniture, shop fitting, repair of doors, locks, handles, windows, replacement of ceiling and carpet tiles, and general paint work.
  • Carry out minor repairs and services on all plumbing related equipment.
  • Perform tier 1 inspections and repairs on all air-conditioning related equipment.
  • Carry out inspections and report back on all fire & access equipment, including fire-extinguishers, hose reels, fire-hydrants, fire-detectors, and access control equipment.
  • Assist Artisans with major repairs and services.
  • Provide constant feedback to management on the restoration status of operations.
