Opportunity Overview
This is an opportunity with Agriculture for a Tractor Driver/Operator position within the Inspectorate Services Directorate. The role is based in Northwest (Buffelspoort).
This position offers a salary of R170,226 per annum. The department encourages applications from African Males and Persons with disabilities.
Minimum Requirements
- Possession of a Grade 10 Certificate (NQF 3).
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience driving and operating specialised equipment.
- A valid Code EC driver’s license.
- A valid operating Certificate.
- Knowledge of equipment operation, physical inspection of vehicles, and the ability to interpret instructions for safe vehicle use.
- Understanding of planting and harvesting crops.
- Ability to interpret and follow operating manuals, maintenance manuals, and service charts.
- Skills in operating a tractor and specialised machinery (e.g., TLB, Bulldozer).
- Experience in using different implements and performing road maintenance.
- Strong communication skills, ability to read and write, and good eyesight.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate tractors with various implements to assist with general farming activities.
- Perform routine maintenance and preparations of vineyards, orchards, nurseries, and experimental sites at PQS.
- Implement and maintain equipment, and provide administrative support.
- Ensure safe storage, cleaning, and routine maintenance and repair of implements and equipment.
- Operate specialised machinery such as boilers, pressurizers, autoclaves, tractors, brush cutters, mowers, spray pumps, and front-end loaders.
- Perform basic maintenance and repair of tractors, implements, and equipment.
- Provide general technical support for pest control in quarantine facilities.
- Apply pesticides according to recommendations from PQS.
- Assist with the preparation and mixing of pesticides and manual spot spray application in facilities.
