Opportunity Overview

The Department of Agriculture is inviting applications for the position of Assistant Director: Compliance Management, based in Pretoria, Gauteng. This is an opportunity to contribute to a government department by ensuring adherence to regulations and internal policies.

This role involves implementing compliance strategies, managing processes, and developing training to foster a culture of compliance within the department. The successful candidate will be a key part of maintaining operational integrity and good governance.

Minimum Requirements

  • Applicants must have a Grade 12 Certificate.
  • A National Diploma in Internal Auditing / Financial Management / Law / Risk Management is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ supervisory experience in compliance management is essential.
  • Knowledge of corporate governance, compliance management, the public service environment, the Public Financial Management Act (PFMA), and National Treasury Regulations.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation, regulations, norms, and standards.
  • Possession of dynamic leadership skills, computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite, project management skills, and strong communication (verbal and written), presentation, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to perform problem-solving and analysis.
  • Capacity for extended working hours and working under pressure.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement the departmental compliance management strategy.
  • Execute compliance management processes, including identification, risk assessment, risk management, and reporting.
  • Develop and deliver training to employees on compliance awareness.
  • Maintain and update the Departmental Compliance universe on an ongoing basis.
  • Provide assistance in compiling the annual compliance management implementation plan.
  • Participate in committees that advise on compliance risk management.
  • Assist with the coordination of all compliance reports and provide compliance-related information to the Risk and Compliance Committee.
  • Align compliance checklists with strategic and operational plans continuously.
  • Identify the Department’s strategic and operational plans to understand business needs for regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct compliance assessments within the department according to established procedures.
  • Monitor compliance using developed tools and techniques.
  • Communicate best practice methodologies and standards for compliance functionality.
  • Research best compliance practices and contribute to improving the Department’s compliance management methodology.
