Opportunity Overview
The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is inviting applications for Medical Specialists in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Victoria Hospital, within the Metro Health Services. Minimum Requirements
- Minimum Educational Qualification: An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Professional Council Registration: Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Note: Candidates not yet in possession of the stipulated registration may apply, provided they submit proof of application for registration and proof of payment of prescribed registration fees to the relevant council on or before the closing date.
- Experience (Grade 1): No experience required after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Experience (Grade 2): A minimum of 5 years of appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA (or recognised foreign Health Professional Council for foreign-qualified employees) as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Experience (Grade 3): A minimum of 10 years of appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA (or recognised foreign Health Professional Council for foreign-qualified employees) as a Medical Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Inherent Job Requirements:
- Valid (Code B/EB) driver’s license.
- Willingness and ability to travel.
- Competencies (Knowledge/Skills):
- Ability to care for Obstetric and Gynaecology patients, including elective, emergency, and high-risk cases.
- Ability to perform necessary Obstetric and Gynaecology ultrasound scans.
- Possess surgical competency for elective, emergency, and complicated Obstetric and Gynaecology cases.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate a safe, efficient, cost-effective, and appropriate Gynaecology service for patients at Victoria Hospital and the Metro West ecosystem.
- Perform overtime duties, including Obstetric and Gynaecology duties, across the broader Metro West ecosystem.
- Conduct teaching and training for staff and students in the medical and surgical care of Obstetric and Gynaecology patients.
- Assist with the effective and efficient administration of the Gynaecology service at Victoria Hospital and the Metro West ecosystem.
- Ensure the rational use of resources, including medical/surgical sundries and equipment.
- Provide innovation and implement improvement strategies in the care of patients within the Gynaecology service at Victoria Hospital and the Metro West ecosystem.
