Opportunity Overview
Unilever is recruiting for a full-time Shift Coordinator to join their Supply Chain team in Boksburg, Gauteng. This role is crucial for coordinating team activities to ensure plant safety, quality, and production targets are met.
The Shift Coordinator will facilitate teamwork and build effective working relationships across shifts. You will play a key role in managing daily production challenges, improving line efficiency, enforcing company policies, and optimising the use of the temporary workforce. Minimum Requirements
- National Diploma in Engineering or Engineering Technical qualification.
- 3-5 years of working experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong leadership and management experience, particularly with a large team working shifts.
- Sound strategic and operational Production management experience.
- Strong Industrial Relations experience in a unionised environment.
- Ability to support, guide, and drive Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) regulations and standards, ensuring compliance.
- Proficiency in Problem Solving and Decision Making.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
- Skills in Production Planning & Scheduling.
- Computer literate and proficient in the usage of relevant applications.
- Understanding of Supply Chain Agility.
- Focus on Continuous Improvement.
- Strong ability for Stakeholder Management and Influence.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of production staff during their shifts, covering process/operation and start-up/shutdown procedures.
- Oversee the safe and efficient start-up and shutdown of the factory.
- Resolve operational issues and escalate complex problems to management when necessary.
- Ensure material availability by verifying the upstream Batch System (e.g., storage tanks) is correctly set up with the right ingredients and quantities to meet the production plan.
- Ensure that machinery and equipment in the area of responsibility are operated, maintained, and changed over efficiently as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Drive the development of operators to perform autonomous maintenance and inspection tasks on equipment as per schedule, including minor maintenance such as replacing belts, chains, hoses, covers, or knives.
- Conduct shift handovers and communicate key updates to incoming teams.
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with all company policies.
- Accurately approve Time & Attendance (T&A) hours.
- Manage absenteeism and overtime for the team.
- Hold the team accountable for production activities and expectations.
