Opportunity Overview
The South African Revenue Services (SARS) is seeking a self-motivated and passionate individual for the Manager: Compliance Risk position. This role is crucial for enhancing service delivery by providing specialised expertise, strategic guidance, and operational support in developing and implementing operational plans and processes within the Taxpayer Engagement Operations division.
The successful candidate will work independently and with a team of experts, alongside various internal and external stakeholders. The core objective is to ensure effective and efficient planning and execution of compliance risk activities, which are vital for regulating taxpayer compliance and maximising tax revenue collections.
Minimum Requirements
- Option 1:
- Bachelor’s Degree / Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) in Taxation or Accounting.
- 8 – 10 years’ experience in the Financial Sector.
- Of the above, 3 – 4 years at a junior management level.
- Option 2:
- Senior Certificate (NQF 4).
- 15 years’ experience in the Financial Sector.
- Of the above, 3 – 4 years at a junior management level.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a key driver of tactical implementation within the business unit.
- Apply functional area policies to advise business in complex professional disciplines.
- Develop, plan, and execute the functional unit's quarterly plan to achieve targets.
- Direct, control, coordinate, and optimise budgeted resources to meet objectives.
- Ensure the development and implementation of practices aligned with operational policy.
- Implement tactical strategy and delivery plans through operational activities.
- Plan and manage projects impacting different business areas.
- Report on unit's outputs, identify deviations, and develop alternative plans.
- Plan for work outputs, coordinate interdependent activities, and specify priorities.
- Provide periodic performance reports and use insights to realign tactical plans.
- Recommend changes to optimise processes, systems, policies, and procedures.
- Research and support workable recommendations/solutions through information analysis.
- Communicate policy modifications, objective progress, and critical success factors to stakeholders.
- Use integrated business reports to measure success and realign tactical strategy.
- Implement governance, risk, and compliance policy in own practice area.
- Manage and advise on the translation and application of policy in a functional area.
- Monitor and promote the application of governance and legal compliance.
- Develop and implement appropriate people capacity plans in line with delivery and efficiency targets.
- Develop and maintain a high-performing team.
What the Work Involves
This role is based at SARS Head Office, reporting to a Senior Manager within the Case Selection Analytics team, part of the Taxpayer Engagement Operations division. Day-to-day work involves managing and allocating tasks, overseeing end-to-end processes, and ensuring the achievement of compliance risk objectives.
You will be involved in developing operational plans, directing resources, and planning projects. The work requires a focus on regulating taxpayer compliance and maximising tax revenue through diligent planning, execution, and reporting. You will also be responsible for ensuring governance and compliance within your practice area, working closely with a team of experts and engaging with various internal and external stakeholders.
