Opportunity Overview
The South African Revenue Services (SARS) is seeking a skilled and experienced Functional Analyst for their Business Systems team. This position is located at Head Office in Pretoria and reports to the Manager: IT Business Relations within the Enterprise Design - Enterprise division.
This role focuses on providing essential system maintenance and support, particularly for SARS's top leadership, including EXCO and VIP staff members, to ensure they can effectively perform their critical business functions. The successful candidate will specialise in supporting specific system applications, maintaining them, and addressing user enquiries, issues, and enhancement requests under guidance and supervision.
Minimum Requirements
- Higher Certificate (NQF 5) in IT AND 3 years' IT experience.
- OR Senior Certificate (NQF 4) AND 4 years' IT experience.

- Build and maintain productive relationships with colleagues and SARS stakeholders.
- Review assigned incident inventory on the management console.
- Analyze production inventory received through management reports.
- Investigate all allocated queries to determine their root cause.
- Request additional information when details are missing.
- Replicate defects in the testing environment with thorough documentation.
- Carry out comprehensive system regression and stability tests when implementing fixes; help identify suitable workaround solutions for system issues.
- Create User and Functional Requirements Specifications for production fixes.
- Collaborate with peers across departments, business partners, and both internal and external development teams.
- Provide regular updates to management regarding trends, escalations, and decisions.
- Contribute to end-user training and education, such as compiling and updating FAQ materials.
- Present complex technical concepts and solutions in clear, non-technical language.
- Comply with governance and compliance procedures and continuously identify and escalate risks.

As a Functional Analyst, you will be deeply involved in the day-to-day support and maintenance of specific system applications used by SARS's top leadership. Your work will include reviewing incident reports, analysing production data, and methodically investigating technical queries to pinpoint their root causes. You will be responsible for replicating any identified defects in a testing environment and conducting thorough system tests to ensure fixes are stable before implementation.
You will also play a crucial role in creating detailed User and Functional Requirements Specifications for system improvements and fixes. This position requires strong collaboration with various internal teams, business partners, and external development teams. You will report to the Manager: IT Business Relations and work from the Head Office in Pretoria, contributing to the smooth operation of critical business systems within a supportive, office-based environment.
