South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) External Bursary Programme 2026

Opportunity Overview

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) is a government-owned company responsible for managing South Africa’s national roads. SANRAL believes that education is fundamental to the country's future and offers bursaries to students who demonstrate strong academic performance.

This External Bursary Programme is specifically for the 2027 academic year, providing support to promising students. Bursary recipients will also have the opportunity to apply for on-the-job training. SANRAL encourages applications from individuals with disabilities.

Minimum Requirements

To be eligible for the SANRAL External Bursary Programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Be a South African citizen under the age of 35.
• Intend to enrol for full-time study at an approved South African tertiary institution (privately-owned universities will not be considered).
• Not hold any other bursaries.
• The applicant’s financial situation will be taken into consideration.
• Awards will be made in line with SANRAL’s Employment Equity (EE) Transformation Policy objectives.

For Undergraduate Applicants:

• Must be entering their first year of study in 2027.
• Must have obtained a minimum average of 70% in their latest academic results.
• Must be pursuing studies in one of the following approved fields:
• BSc or BEng in Civil Engineering
• Public Procurement or Supply Chain Management
• Computer Science or Information Systems

For Postgraduate Applicants:

• Must be enrolling for a postgraduate qualification at NQF Level 8 in 2027.
• Must have achieved a minimum average of 60% in their most recent academic results.
• Must be pursuing studies in one of the following approved fields:
• Property development and management (real estate and/or commercial properties)
• Commercial property and investment
• Property Asset Management
• Property valuation
• Town and regional planning (including GIS)
• Finance or financial management
• Property law, commercial law, contract law

How to Apply

Applications for the SANRAL External Bursary Programme close on 30 September 2026.

To apply, follow these steps:

• Complete the application form in full.
• Gather all necessary supporting documents as listed below.
• Submit your application online through the official portal.

Required Documents:

• Letter of Motivation: A one-page letter explaining about yourself and why you wish to receive a SANRAL bursary.
• Certified Document Copies:
• For applicants currently in high school: Results from Term 1 and 2.
• For applicants at tertiary level: Full academic record from your current tertiary institution.
• Proof of tertiary application.
• Your ID document or birth certificate.
• ID documents of your parents or legal guardian.
• Proof of Residence: Water and electricity bill from the local council in the name of your parents or legal guardian.
• Proof of Income.

Important Application Information:

• SANRAL does not charge any fees to apply for bursaries or scholarships.
• The course you indicate on your bursary application form must match the course you are accepted for at your chosen tertiary institution.
• All applications are carefully reviewed and verified. Any misrepresentation of information could result in your bursary being cancelled.
