Opportunity Overview
The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) is inviting nominations for qualified individuals to serve as members on its CEO Technical Advisory Committees (TACs). SAHPRA operates as a Schedule 3A Public Entity, established under the Medicines and Related Substances Act of 1965, responsible for regulating medicines, medical devices, and in vitro diagnostics (IVDs) in South Africa.
These Technical Advisory Committees are vital, providing expert advice on technical and regulatory matters within SAHPRA's scope. This specific call for nominations is for the Biological Medicines Sub-Committee, focusing on Cell and Gene Therapy (CGT). Committee members will serve a term until 30 November 2028, with a possibility of re-appointment for further terms.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Hold an appropriate degree in medicine or clinical pharmacy.
- Possess a post-graduate qualification in one of the following fields: Clinical Pharmacology, Oncology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, and Genetic Engineering.
- Registration with a statutory regulatory board or council relevant to their profession is recommended, where applicable.
- Must be in good standing with any regulatory board or council with which they are registered.
- Must not have any conflict of interest as defined by SAHPRA Policy on Management of Conflict of Interest (GOV02).
- Must not be disqualified from practicing their profession under the relevant Act.
- Must not have been found guilty of improper or disgraceful conduct.
- Must not be a patient as defined in section 1 of the Mental Health Care Act, 2002.
- Must not have been convicted of an offence that resulted in imprisonment without the option of a fine, or in the case of fraud.
Key Responsibilities
As a member of the CEO Technical Advisory Sub-Committee, nominated individuals will be expected to:
- Investigate and report to SAHPRA on matters within the committee's scope under the Act.
- Provide expert advice on various technical and regulatory matters, leveraging their external technical expertise.
