Opportunity Overview
The South African Forestry Company (SAFCOL) is offering an opportunity for an Information Security Support Engineer based in Nelspruit. This role is crucial for maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of SAFCOL's information and communication systems. The successful candidate will be instrumental in proactively preventing, detecting, and responding to security incidents.
This position involves providing essential technical support and guidance to users, ensuring the secure and effective use of company systems and related equipment. It also entails supporting the implementation and operation of security controls, policies, and procedures throughout SAFCOL.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12
- National Diploma in Information & Communication Technology (ICT) or a related field (NQF Level 6)
- 3-5 years of experience in ICT User/Desktop and Network Support, with exposure to an Information Security Support function
- Valid driver’s license
- A BSc/B-Tech Degree in Information & Communication Technology (ICT) or a related field (NQF Level 7) will be an added advantage.
- Relevant certifications such as A+/N+, Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST), CompTIA Security, and Microsoft Certified Software Engineer (MCSE) will also be an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and ensure effective functioning of desktop & laptop computers.
- Configure and set up email functionality on business cell phones and upgrade computers.
- Troubleshoot faulty cable switches and log calls with suppliers.
- Configure and troubleshoot faults with the telephone system.
- Perform hardware troubleshooting and advise on solutions.
- Conduct routine system check-ups and advise users on systems, products, and services.
- Act as an interface between users and service providers for error resolution and incident analysis.
- Assist users in the effective use of desktop systems, products, and services, diagnosing problems and advising on solutions.
- Install and commission desktop systems and routine upgrades.
- Provide information on updates, known errors, changes, and new facilities.
- Perform site visits, conduct maintenance, diagnoses, and repairs.
- Ensure network connection and access for users.
- Monitor and advise staff on security breaches and password statuses.
- Load all required business software and applications.
- Perform software troubleshooting.
- Check and ensure all applications & operating systems are working effectively.
- Check and update installed security software.
- Install and maintain camera infrastructure and wireless Access Points.
- Perform 3G connections, VPN setups, and connections.
- Provide network troubleshooting and solutions, including running network cables.
- Set up and maintain all network peripherals.
- Implement, maintain, and monitor security measures, controls, and configurations.
- Perform routine checks, upgrades, and testing of security tools and infrastructure.
- Investigate and resolve all security breaches, viruses, suspicious traffic, and activities.
- Conduct vulnerability assessments, penetration tests, and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Address security-related queries and troubleshoot complex security software/hardware issues (VPNs, firewalls, Cloud Security).
- Provide technical guidance to ICT Operations and Application Support teams.
- Perform education and training for end-users.
